Healing Through Sound and Music

A predominant part of the early teachings of the Greeks, Chinese, East Indians, Tibetans, Egyptians, American Indians, and the Aztecs is the use of sound as a creative and healing force.  Sound/Music is considered one of the oldest forms of healing. 

Sounds are vibrations; the sound vibrations put the air molecules in motion. They flow outward, propelled to and landing upon any receiving set-such as the human body.

The human body is a great resonator for sound.  Every musical sound has a certain number of vibrations per second.  The lower sounds vibrate at a much slower rate then the same sound several octaves above.

The body is surrounded by an energy field that is commonly referred to as the aura. The aura is an electromagnetic force field that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body.  This force field shields and protects the body. It is commonly believed that the human aura consist of seven layers.  Chakras are energy centers that exist in and out of the body.  Chakra is a Sanskrit term meaning “wheel of light.” These wheels of light are constantly spinning starting clock-wise or counter clock-wise depending on the sex.  Each Chakra spins in a different direction.  There are seven major chakras that are located within the body.

These chakras can have blockages.  When a Chakra is unbalanced or blocked this can cause problems to the body, mind, and spirit.  One way blockages can be eliminated is to expose the Chakra to energy vibrations that are close to the ones in which a harmoniously functioning Chakra free of blockages naturally vibrates.  These energy vibrations can be found in colors, gemstones, sounds, and essential oils. 

Each of the chakras has a particular tone it vibrates to, as well as instruments that   correspond to them.  This is not to say that other instruments or tunes will not affect the chakras.  This just means that certain notes and musical instruments could have a more pronounced effect on certain chakras.  There are also vowel sounds that correspond to the chakras.  This is not a hard and fast rule.  Everyone is different and it is possible that the notes can very slightly from person to person. 

Below I have included a list of notes as they correspond to the chakras as well as musical instruments and vowel sounds.

Root Chakra:

Belly/Spleen Chakra:

v     D above middle C

v     Percussion, base, and woodwind instruments

Solar Plexus Chakra

v     E above middle C

v     Woodwind, flutes, percussion, strings, and piano instruments

Heart Chakra:

v     F above middle C

v     Harps, organs, flutes, percussion, wind chimes and all string instruments

v     Ah

Throat Chakra:

v     G above middle C

v     Harps, organs, pianos, and high string instruments

v     Ay

Third Eye Chakra:

v     A above middle C

v     Harps, organs, pianos,  chimes, and high string instruments

v     Ee

Crown Chakra:

v     B above middle C

v     Harps, organs, pianos,  chimes, and high string instruments

v     Ee (nasal sounding)

Musical notes can be integrated into meditation work to facilitate a more profound response with the consciousness.  Music added in the appropriate manner to images we create can accelerate and amplify the effects.  If we correlate tones to the specific activities of a magical journey, the effects are increased.  Words, chants, and mantras added to music can also have a more pronounced effect.

Music and the voice are powerful vessels in communicating vibrations with the ability to stimulate deeper emotions and enhanced associations on all levels of the psyche.
